Evolution of an Icon: 100 Years of Surf Life Saving in New South Wales

Celebrates a centenary of surf lifesaving in NSW. From the establishment of its first clubs to its growth into one of Australia’s most important volunteer movements, the book describes the developments that took place at both a practical and administrative level, the heroic rescues that were undertaken, including the Black Sunday rescue in 1938 and, more recently, the rescue of over 200 people in the Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim in 2003, and the ongoing success of the Nippers movement.
