After losing one crewmate in a terrible accident, space captain Mafahru leaves her ship to retrieve another of the misfits in her crew. Illith, lover to the deceased, cannot stand the loss. It threatens to permanently drive him away. What may tear apart the misfits more is the war that breaks out on the planet below—the planet on which Alana, one of their younger members, has gone for repairs. Mafahru will do whatever she can to piece together her crew. The people she meets along the way will either help with her mission or else put those she loves in mortal danger.
